The former is the old standard (Pre-2014) while the latter is what is currently present on new products. The chart below shows compatibility between the two systems.

Lateral adjustment of the lever position is accomplished by loosening the shifter top cap bolt and sliding the whole shifter body. All that said, there may be compatibility problems right off the bat. There are 4 versions of I-Spec: A, B, II, & EV. The instructions in your question regard A & B I-Spec. The KCNC clamp may be for the ISpec EV.

2 Answers Sorted by: 7 I-spec is a Shimano-proprietary mounting system for Shimano parts. Its supposed to make mounting and adjusting brake+shift levers faster and easier by putting them on one mounting clamp.
